"Maester, it is indeed the 'Hard Bargain'. I can see the outer works, those pirates didn't change the painting." There was a moment of silence. Then Rhod- erik answered his second in command. "Samujhel will be happy to get his ship back then. What a shame he can't be here and take it himself. Well Amalthea and myself had a good laugh when the news reached us, that the bold Samujhel had been cheated of his own bloody planks by a culprit during his brief shore visit to buy goods and distribute trainees. Tell the guys to get ready. I want this fast and clean." and just like an afterthought he added, "well and tell them that if they can manage they shall take the enemies captain alive." The mate saluted and moved down to the lower deck to pass on the orders. Rhoderik raised his own scopes and watched the enemy ship trying to avoid the confrontation. Brief orders to his helmsman brought his ship nearer and nearer to the target. The wind was favorable. When the ships hulls lay next to each other, the experienced soldiers boarded the enemy vessel. A short but hard fight erupted. The mate pinned down the enemy captain while two others threw nets over him. The fight was over, the target secured. Rhoderik faced the other captain as he was brought before him. "Welcome aboard the 'Special Bonus' may honored guest. I am so glad you could make it to the party." The other just stayed silent. "May I be so bold to ask for a name I can give you?" - "Candide" answered the prisoner. "Well Candide my friend, be aware that the Imperial Merchant Guild always pays the bills. And a ship is not a cheap token to buy. This one will cost." With a wave of his hand he signaled the two soldiers holding the prisoner to take him away and throw him in the brigg until the moment when it was time to walk the plank. -- Imperial Merchant Guild [ni2] =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Rumors =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Schrodinger's douchebag: A guy who says really offensive things & decides whether he was joking based upon the reactions of those around him =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Srabt looked backl He had covered a good distance from the ambush but he could see that it was already heavily scavenged. The arrow he had scraped into the hard-scrabble dirt was gone, obscured by shifting of the sand and movement of the scavengers. Any patrol searching for his party would would never be able to see it - not even a flying patrol. He would have to stay in the open, but that meant he would also be visible to predators - man or beast. ... He had been travelling for part of yesterday, all of last night and some of today. The pain in his left side , the dull pain that was quite separate from the convulsions, would not go away; it dogged him like the predators he heard around him. He diagnosed it as a puncture of his lung and it would kill him in 36 hours but it had a low priority because he would probably be killed by the predators during one of his convulsions. He kept up his ground-eating pace for another 2 hours; the predators were no longer hiding but keeping pace, loping along. There was no element of drama in the scene which made him realize that an attack was imminent. So he slowed down and sauntered carefully over to the largest boulder in reach, he turned his back to it and waited for them. They crouched around him in a semi-circle watching him carefully. The tableau remained stable for at least a half minute; he almost felt sympathy for the one on the left who moved first as his foot whipped out and the blades in his boot raked it from groin to throat. He jabbed his fingers into the eye of the one which he pretended not to notice climbing the boulder behind him. He reached back and grabbed the blinded predator, flinging it at the 2 remaining predators. The convulsions came again bending him almost double then he staggered to his knees. The remaining predators stopped their retreat and watched him with renewed interest. The remaining 2 were moving towards him in unison: absolutely perfect unison. He should his head, cleared the double vision realizing that it was only one in front of him then felt the other clawing at his back. He fell face first into the sand while the second joined the first - now they weren't fighting him, they were eating. He bunched his arms and legs below him and heaved himself up and rolled over; the 2 predators either jumped away or were tossed - it didn't matter. While they were still dazed, he attacked and shredded them with spiked gloves. ... Ten hours later he managed to drag himself up a low ridge overlooking an inn; he stared at it for a moment.... Someone in the inn wondered what the vultures had gathered to eat over on that far ridge. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
