********************************************************************** **** The Havilah Times **** ********************************************************************** **** June, Year 1 Edition **** ********************************************************************** ---------------------------------------------------------------------- - ****NEWS ARTICLES**** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Since a couple of people have now noticed what appear to be anomalies in the space time continuum, allow me to present a lesson in advanced geography: The world of Havilah is not, as many primitive folk assume, flat. Rather it is approximately spherical. However, rendering a three dimensional object in two dimensions, as cartographers are obsessed with doing, is notoriously tricky. Here is an example of rendering a different spherical world in two dimensional form: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goode_homolosine_projection See the triangular(ish) chunks cut out of the map at the poles, and the way the polar regions are spread widely despite being actually close to each other? The same thing happens with the maps we have of Havilah. So if you see an exit to a region that goes to coordinates that appear rather different from those of the region itself, this is most likely an indicator that the region is on the edge of one of these triangular chunks. These chunks are not actually missing, but are the result of trying to fold a three dimensional sphere into two dimensions - should you ever happen to obtain a complete map of Havilah, as presented in two dimensions, you should be able to cut it out and piece it together in three dimensions to form an accurate model. So these apparant spacial warps are actually just relics of a two dimensional coordinate system being applied to a three dimensional surface. If you travel over one of these edges, there should be a path back to the region you started out, although it might not be the direction you expect it to be, since "north" changes direction when you travel around the pole in the polar regions - so each time you cross one of these boundaries, you are effectively turning 60 degrees as well as moving. Or they could be anomalies in the space time continuum :-) [Article submitted by Bughunters (3)] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The horses were tasty :-) However, I didn't eat all of them - they were too filling. Some of them escaped to other regions. In fact, now that you come to mention it, I think a number of resources had their geographic distribution tinkered with. You may have to explore a bit to find where they've got to! "These dwarves, they seem to want to be in a Mine" "A Mine?" "Where a million Diamonds shine, Sir" The Outcast looked up at his subordinated with one eyebrow raised. "Singing, Logu?, I thought you'd stoped all that" [Article submitted by Xebec Rising (4)] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Be productive and multiply; fill the land and subdue it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- - ****RUMORS**** - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Will this all end beside crater lake, and the battle between the sword and the spear? ----------------------------------------------------------------------
